Lake Tahoes most famous bagpiper - Sean Cummings

That’s how far the shores of Lake Tahoe are from the city of Glasgow, Scotland. The sea of rolling green highlands, deep culture, and the sounds of bagpipes might be distant, but for the 53rd edition of the DeCelle Memorial Lake Tahoe Relay Race, it will feel like the bagpipe’s bellows are calling to you on your way to the finish line. How can that be? Well, we’ve enlisted the help of Lake Tahoe’s most famous bagpiper... Sean Cummings.

Eight Generations of Clan Tradition

In the past, skills or ‘trades’ were handed down from generation to generation. This lead to quality in craftsmanship that we rarely see in this day and age. We’re very fortunate to experience this in person with Sean Cummings as he comes from that legacy. With over eight generations of bagpipe harmony, the Cummings family tradition dates back to the 17th century. In fact, they are hereditary pipers to the Clan Grant chieftains in Badenoch & Strathspey, Scotland. Sean’s passion for this instrument has lead him down many paths with amazing opportunites.

• Rank of sergeant piper

• Vice President of the Sierra Highlanders Pipe Band

• Member of the 1st Nevada band to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland
