We hope all of you are doing as well as can be during this stressful time. Can you believe it’s been a year? WOW! The Lake Tahoe Relay Crew is so very grateful for each and every one of you keeping the soul alive for the oldest relay race in America. Similar to you, we’ve been watching closely how the vaccines and hospitalization rates are tracking. It’s with a heavy heart that we’re having to postpone this year’s 2021 event.

Why Now?

While we’re eternal optimists, it’s just not feasible due to timing. To put on such a grassroots event like this across two states, multiple counties, and a plethora of cities, we need A LOT of permits. As you may or may not have seen, regardless of your perspective, there’s still quite a bit of uncertainty of what will happen by June 6th, 2021.

A Fluid Situation

I know that the DeCelle Memorial Lake Tahoe Relay isn’t life or death, but it’s a great day of running around beautiful Lake Tahoe with Friends and Family. As the pandemic continues to affect our lives, the Lake Tahoe Relay Crew has and will continue to closely monitor the impact of the coronavirus COVID-19 alerts.

Race Is Postponed For The Time Being

We value your health, safety, and well-being above all and are taking guidance from CDC experts and our local and state governmental health organizations. After long and painstaking discussions with community leaders and officials, we’ve made the decision to postpone the 57th DeCelle Memorial Lake Tahoe Relay. In the silver lining though, we have HIGH hopes that we will be able to run it this fall.

In Summary – Stay Tuned

Fingers crossed we’ll be wearing one of these in the fall.

We’re sorry for any inconveniences that may be a result of this decision, such as canceling or rebooking accommodations and rescheduling travel plans. We hope this is giving you enough notice. Our highest priority is to provide a safe event for all participants under more favorable conditions. The Race Crew (my wife and kids) will continue to monitor and update everyone if things change. We hope you and your family are all staying well during this trying time. And let’s all pray that we get through this in one piece and have an opportunity to run the next edition of our race.

The DeCelle Memorial Lake Tahoe Relay appreciates your loyalty to participate in the race, and we thank you for your patience while we navigate these difficult times. We will provide an update about the fall running of the race in early June.

Please be safe and stay tuned,

The Lake Tahoe Relay Crew
