The DeCelle Memorial Lake Tahoe Relay has always had a close connection to our troops. This historic race was re-named in 1971 in honor of Captain Robert E DeCelle Jr, killed in action in Vietnam. On top of that, El Dorado County has the highest per capita concentration of veterans in all of California. Inspired by our good friend Jim Cahill, a veteran and special education teacher in South Lake, we’ve been working hard to find ways to honor our fallen troops by partnering with a great cause for even more awareness.

Operation Rebound – Frontline to Finish Line

Operation ReboundRio DeJaneiro 2016 Olympic baton is a subgroup of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). This organization uses sports and fitness opportunities to help reintegrate and empower veterans, military personnel, and first responders with permanent physical injuries. Their goal is to strengthen the mental and physical well-being of everyone they work with. CAF is here to support our service members from Frontline to Finish Line.

This Year’s Team

Operation Rebound Team for Lake Tahoe Relay 2022As part of the 2022 DeCelle Memorial Lake Tahoe Relay, we were joined by an awesome group of Operation Rebound / CAF athletes. This included Kevin Hoy, Barry McKowen, and Scott Forester of Forester Prosthetics who did our adaptive course. Having them part of our 2022 relay race is always an emotionally uplifting segment.

We feel privileged to partner with this great organization and have their athletes join us every year. If anyone would like to donate to the cause, please click on the link provided below.
