What an absolute crazy start to this year. I was like most people back at the beginning. The news that was streaming from China wasn’t going to affect us but boy was I wrong. I never expected to be told to shelter in place. To stop doing all of our daily routines that we’re used to doing. My daughter thought how nice to have a few weeks off from school, sports, and activities. She didn’t realize and neither did I how much this pandemic would affect our lives.

A Fluid Situation

I know that the DeCelle Memorial Lake Tahoe Relay isn’t life or death. But, it’s a great day of running around beautiful Lake Tahoe with Friends and Family. As the seriousness of this pandemic continues to escalate, the Lake Tahoe Relay crew has and will continue to closely monitor the impact of the coronavirus COVID-19 alerts.

We value your health, safety and well-being above all. And with that, we are taking guidance from CDC experts and our local and state governmental health organizations. After long and painstaking discussions with community leaders and officials, we’ve made the decision to cancel the 56th DeCelle Memorial Lake Tahoe Relay that was to be held on June 13th, 2020.

What Does That Mean For Registered Teams?

If you’re currently registered, your team’s registration will automatically roll over to next year’s race – Saturday, June 12th, 2021. If your team can’t make it, we will honor your registration for the following year – Saturday, June 11th, 2022.

In Summary – Stay Tuned for 2021

We’re sorry for any inconveniences that may be a result of this decision, such as canceling or rebooking accommodations and rescheduling travel plans. Our highest priority is to provide a safe event for all participants under more favorable conditions. The Race Crew (my wife and kids) will continue to monitor and stay current to what is happening. We hope you and your family are all staying well during this trying time. And let’s all pray that we get through this in peace and have an opportunity to run the next edition of our race.

The DeCelle Memorial Lake Tahoe Rely appreciates your loyalty to participate in the race, and we thank you for your patience while we navigate these difficult times.

Please be safe and stay tuned,

The Lake Tahoe Relay Crew
